This idea just popped in my head... when the Salidar Aes Sedai were looking for a new Amyrlin and needed someone who wasn't already tied to an ajah, would they have chosen Nynaeve or Elayne before Egwene? Was she their first choice? They probably wouldn't pick Elayne because she has to be Queen of Andor and they were excited to have a queen who is openly Aes Sedai so she wouldn't be an option. If Nyn could have channeled freely at the time, would they have chosen her? She's the strongest Aes Sedai since the age of legends and a little older (mature) than other Accepteds. She also has experience of being in a position of leadership. What kind of Amyrlin do you think she would be? If the option was given to her, I'm sure she wouldn't want the job though. Enough rambling...

They wouldn't have chosen Nynaeve. Nynaeve was known to be stubborn, she had been the wisdom of emondsfield, so they know they couldn't easy bullie her into doing things they wanted. Nynaeve was a wilder and not many aes sedai are fond of wilders. So i don't think nynaeve would have been the right chose. And ofcourse she has never been novice and many aes sedai disapprove of that also.

hey guys! im back! (if only for a few days before im off to see the world again, my summers been crazy) I'm in agreement with Isabel, i feel that the Aes Sedai have been tied down to tradition for to long for them to choose nyn. Nyn would have made a good Amyrlin for a number of reasons, she's a good leader, strong personallity, not easily bullied, and Elayne even mentions that she has a keen eye for politiics. however, the Aes Sedai wanted a puppet, not a leader, since they knew of nyn's stubbornness, they chose (albiet to their misfortune, Egwene) Egghead might not be nynaeve when it comes to wills, but as much as i hate to say it, she isnt doing a horrible job, (if you ignore Halima of course) Although nyn was not chosen for amyrlin, i believe she still has a large role to play in the Tower. Over the years, the AS have become more and more inactive, holding to traditions now irralavent and useless, and customs that few even remember the purpose of. in this way, Aes Sedai become to reliant on tradition to get them out of situations instead of thinking of a newer and more likely solution. i feel Nynaeve will take over Cadsuane's role of dragging Sisters into the future and out of tradition. cadsuane already started the job, moiraine mentioned her flaunting of custom in NS, and it is apparent in later books. nyn seems like the right person for this role due to the same traits that would have made her a good amyrlin, she cant be bullied, has good common sense, and knows when to give people a good smack on the bottom!

I suspect the main reason they did not consider Nynaeve was her Block...The Hall of the Tower would not choose Nynaeve for that reason over all others...An Amyrlin has to be able to channel at all times...
Suian had already chosen Egwene before they ever got to Saladar...and Suian made sure the hall did pick Egwene...
Besides Elayne and Nynaeve seemed to stay in trouble almost the whole time they were in Saladar...

They wouldn't have chosen Nynaeve as Amyrlin because they wanted someone who would be their figurehead, but do their bidding...however, they're in for a surprise, as Egwene is getting progressively stronger...

That is true Suien and all the others hoped to control Egwene...none of them had been there when the Wiseone's put a stainless steel backbone to go along with Egwene's natural stubborness... But Suien must have realized fairly quickly that the wheel weaved a young woman into the Amyrlin Seat that would be the strongest of all time...for a time of madness... The Wheel Weaves as the Wheel Wills...

Suian could not have gotten the Hall to pick Nynaeve because she was right in front of them and they would have judged against her...but Eqwene was far away and an X factor...
