Elayne has several female friends: But Avi became her sister... I wish all of you could listen to the sister ceremony in {Winter's Heart} Kate Reading did it so well it made me cry...
Even in Winter's Heart Elayne was talking about having Nynaeve as her Aes Sedai advisor....
But I believe that by the end of the series Elayne and Nynaeve will be parted for about 100 years, until all the normal humans that knew Rand will be dead and then Rand and Avi and Elayne will return from Tramalking...I believe that Rand will take his wives to live in Tramalking...the time of Illusion is over... Of course Min will be dead by the time they return to Camlyn...Nynaeve is going to be the Queen of the Malkior...and she will be busy running that country...By the time Elayne and Rand come back to Rule Andor...Lan will be dead and Nynaeve can give the Rule of Melchior to her Grandson...who will be the off-spring of her daughter and one of Perrin's sons...then at long last she can become Aes Sedai Advisor to the Queen of Andor...

Actually, Elayne & Nynaeve remind me of a very dear friend of mine & I --it's that same kind of friendship where you NEVER see things eye-to-eye, but you love each other anyway for some crazy reason. And you argue about stuff & laugh at each other's guys & get in huge fights over nothing, but you always defend each other. You wouldn't want to be sisters, though. It would be too whacked.

Lan is around 45 years old...Even if he lives to be 90 Nynaeve will still be a young woman, when he dies...this is one of the physiological and psychological problems I can see in this series...especially since we are starting to have romances across the divide between ones who channel and ones who do not...
I feel that the real future is going to be between Asha'man and Aes Sedai...who will have comprable age length....

Good point, HammerOfGod. This way, they'd also sidestep the small issue about culling the ability to channel from mankind...

Hey Caroline, I totally agree with you on this. I guess the Elayne/Aviendha thing was just a plot device so that they could both accept being Rand's lovers, and to explore the whole first-sister bond in more depth. But the book at times still implies that Elayne and Nynaeve are the closest of friends: - Elayne wants Nynaeve to be her Aes Sedai advisor when she is Queen, because she can be "trusted" - When the 2 women were killed in the hut, Nyn joined the girl hug between Birgitte, Elayne and Avi - something like "Elayne took comfort in the closeness of her friends." I think Nyn does deserve some appreciation from the other characters. I certainly hope Rand appreciates her more after what she did for him! And she does keep all the Two Rivers people in mind a lot - like when she wanted to go back for Mat when the Seanchan invaded. And they don't think about her at all. Poor Nyn... atleast she has Lan. She is the ONLY person he's concerned with! Rand does trust Nynaeve..in fact he said she is the only Aes Sedai he trusts...that puts her ahead of Elayne and Egwene...but he feels more protective of the other two... I think that if Rand survives to the end...he will go somewhere he is not known and Elayne and his other two brides will go with him... Perhaps Jordan was just preparing us for the world as it is...Nynaeve will be left behind and her great friend will become "Queen Morgase"
